Skiing in Georgia: how to get to every resort

Georgia has some of the cheapest lift tickets in Europe and a short transfer from three airports. Both big resorts — Gudauri and Bakuriani — plan to open on 20 December 2026, snow permitting. This page is the logistics.

The Jvari pass and the road to Kazbegi

Gudauri sits below the Jvari pass (about 2,400 m) on the Georgian Military Road. After heavy snow or avalanche danger the Roads Department closes the Gudauri–Kobi section over the pass — for hours, sometimes days — and the road to Kazbegi and the Upper Lars border is cut. Gudauri itself is usually still reachable from Tbilisi, but trucks queueing for the border can slow the last stretch.

We check georoad.ge before every winter transfer. If the road is closed, you choose a new time or a full refund.

Which airport for skiing?

Tbilisi (TBS) is closest to Gudauri — 2.5 hours. Kutaisi (KUT) has cheap Wizz Air flights and is 3 hours from Bakuriani, 5.5 from Gudauri; there is also a seasonal ski shuttle bus from Kutaisi airport to Gudauri. Batumi (BUS) is the airport for Goderdzi.

When does the 2026/27 ski season start in Georgia?

Gudauri and Bakuriani both plan to open on 20 December 2026, snow permitting. Last season Gudauri ran 27 December – 19 April.

Do you carry skis?

Yes. Tell us the number of ski / snowboard bags; two bags take one seat in a sedan, a minivan takes 6 people with skis.
