Tbilisi to Gudauri is about 120 km — two hours, two and a half in snow — on the Georgian Military Road to Georgia's biggest ski resort (about 2,000–3,280 m). The 2026/27 season is planned to open on 20 December 2026. The road
From Tbilisi past Mtskheta, the Zhinvali reservoir and Ananuri fortress, then up the Aragvi valley through Pasanauri and the hairpins to Gudauri. Gudauri is below the Jvari pass, so it stays reachable on most days when the pass beyond is closed — but trucks queueing for the Russian border at Upper Lars and fresh snow can slow the last 20 km.
Worth stopping
- Ananuri fortress over the Zhinvali reservoir (free 20-minute stop).
- Supermarket in Tbilisi or Mtskheta — prices in Gudauri are higher.
Good to know
- Last season (2025/26) ran 27 December – 19 April; the day pass was 70 GEL. 2026/27 lift prices are not announced yet.
- Ski / snowboard bags: two bags take one seat in a sedan; for 3–4 skiers take a minivan or 4x4.
- Marshrutkas from Didube station cost about 10 GEL but have no fixed schedule and little room for skis.

What if the road is closed?
If the Roads Department closes the road or the driver judges it unsafe, you choose a free new time or a full refund. Closures between Tbilisi and Gudauri are rare and short; beyond Gudauri (Jvari pass to Kazbegi) they are more common.
