Overnight train
The South Caucasus Railway sleeper leaves Tbilisi Central and takes about 10.5 hours; in winter it runs every second night. A September 2026 guide lists 115–218 GEL per person depending on the class; tickets are sold online on the Georgian and Armenian railway sites.
Minivans (marshrutkas)
Minivans leave from Avlabari square and other points in Tbilisi; the same guide lists about 50 GEL per person and about 6 hours including the border. You cross the border with your bags and wait for the whole van.
Private car: two options
One car all the way: the driver takes you door to door through the Sadakhlo–Bagratashen border. Car change at the border: a Georgian car to Sadakhlo, you walk across, an Armenian car continues from Bagratashen — cheaper, and the same fixed price per car.
