Sarpi is the Black Sea crossing between Georgia and Turkey, 17 km south of Batumi; on the Turkish side the village is Sarp and Hopa is about 20 km further. As of 27 October 2026 it is open 24 hours and you can cross on foot. The quickest plan is a car to the Georgian checkpoint ($35 per sedan, 25–30 minutes), walk through both controls, and continue on the Turkish side. Is the Sarpi border open now?
Yes. Sarpi is on the Revenue Service list of 24-hour checkpoints and is walkable; it is also listed by the Georgian tourism administration as the Sarpi automobile checkpoint.

Should I walk across or stay in a car?
Walk. Georgian cars, including ours, need additional insurance and papers for Turkey, and the car queue is often longer than the pedestrian lane. We drop you at the checkpoint with your bags.
Do I need a visa for Turkey?
It depends on your passport: some nationalities are visa-free, others apply for an e-visa on the official Turkish portal before travel. Never pay intermediaries at the border.

What about travelling from Turkey into Georgia?
